First retrofit on the rock of Monaco. The Sunbeam Talbot from the film “To Catch a Thief”, driven by Grace Kelly, has been converted to electric with a hybrid engine and will be presented on April 4th.
A movie car turned into a hybrid
The French Riviera, a blue convertible with one of the most famous blondes of the 50s cinema, wearing white gloves. We are in 1954, in Alfred Hitchcock’s film “To Catch a Thief”.
And as has been the case in the cinema on many occasions, the car also plays a role. It’s a Sunbeam Talbot and has just been retrofitted. A model of choice for a very modern operation. If turning a petrol car into a hybrid is the future, the choice of this model is no coincidence 65 years after the film’s release. Hitchcock and Grace Kelly will be the big absentees.
A conversion of an electric vehicle to a hybrid
The Smart Electric Monaco Association has transformed this Sunbeam Talbot (Alpine Sunbeam Mk 3) with a hybrid engine. Car which is in fact, only a model similar to the one that Grace Kelly was driving in the movie “To Catch a Thief”. This transformation is the first conversion into an electric vehicle of a historic vehicle, in connection with the Principality of Monaco.
The conversion to an electric vehicle was carried out in Monaco in the garage located in the Museum of the Prince of Monaco’s Car Collection.
Equipped with two 15 hp electric motors, which complement the original petrol engine. A battery with a capacity of 10 kWh, allows the Sunbeam Talbot to be driven occasionally in a 100% electric version.
On April 4, 2020, the official presentation of this electric vehicle conversion will take place in the presence of Prince Albert II of Monaco. This will be an opportunity to pay tribute to Princess Grace le rocher with several events including the screening of the film la main au collet and the presentation of the retrofitted Sunbeam Talbot.
